Calculate Your Big Three
Your Sun, Moon and Rising — computed from real planetary positions, not guessed. Free, in seconds.
Your birth details
Enter your birth date, time and city. Don’t know your exact time? Tick the box and we’ll give you your Sun and Moon, with the Rising left for when you find it.
What this calculator does
This tool finds the three placements that make up your Big Three — your Sun, your Moon, and your Rising — from the moment and place you were born. It is the same astronomical engine that powers our full birth-chart reading, focused on just the three signs that carry the most of your personality. Nothing is estimated from your star sign alone; the positions of the Sun, the Moon, and the eastern horizon are computed for your exact birth details.
Once you submit, you land on a personal result page with all three signs broken down, a reading of how they combine, and links to the in-depth hub for each one. That page is yours to bookmark or share.
Why time and place matter
The three placements need different amounts of information. Your Sun sign is set by your date of birth alone — it moves through one sign roughly every thirty days, so a birthday is enough. Your Moon sign changes every two and a half days; your date and place pin it down, and your time makes it exact. Your Rising sign is the demanding one: because the whole zodiac rises over a single day, the Ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours, so it genuinely requires your exact birth time and location.
If you don’t know your birth time, you are not stuck. Tick “I don’t know my exact time” and the calculator casts a solar reading: your Sun and Moon are returned in full, and the Rising section becomes a prompt to come back once you have tracked your time down. Birth certificates and hospital records are the usual sources.
Reading your result
Your Big Three is read in layers. The Sun is the engine — your core identity and drive. The Moon is the private interior — your emotional needs and what makes you feel safe. The Rising is the public filter — the first impression you make. The result page reads each on its own, then synthesises how they interact, because the combination is where the Big Three really comes alive.
When you want the rest of the picture — all ten planets, the twelve houses, and the aspects between them — your full birth chart takes the same details further.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need my exact birth time?
- For your Rising sign, yes — it changes every two hours. For your Sun and Moon, usually not. If you do not know your time, tick the box and we will give you a solar reading with your Sun and Moon; your Rising stays unknown until you find your time.
- Why do you need my birth place?
- Your Rising sign depends on the horizon at your exact location, and your birth place also sets the time zone used to place the Moon and planets precisely. We use it only to compute your chart.
- Is the Big Three calculator accurate?
- Yes. It uses the same astronomical engine as our full birth-chart calculator — real planetary positions, tropical zodiac, Placidus houses — so your Sun, Moon and Rising are computed, not guessed.
